The most beautiful villages of France
Sarlat
20 from ‘Les Pastoures’ Campsite
Sarlat is a small town with a very rich architectural heritage. You can visit on your own or go on a guided visit around the numerous winding narrow streets of this medieval town.
Our advice: Visit Sarlat at least once, if possible during the day and stay during the evening when there are free animations in the street every evening in July and August. You can get refreshments outside (not for the gastronomy, but for the ambiance.!)
Belvès and the troglodyte houses.
15/20 minutes from ‘Les Pastourels’ campsite
Belvès is also one of the most beautiful villages of France, less touristic but very typical. The visit to the troglodyte houses suggested by the tourist office is well recommended for children (and the parents), short and well explained.
Every Wednesday evening in July and August there is a ‘marché gourmand’ around La Halle, a very pretty spot to taste local produce, fresh or ready to eat.
Our advice: It is the ‘marché gourmand’ preferred by our clients.
Les Eyzies
30 minutes from ‘Les Pastourels’ campsite
Le village des Eyzies de Tayac has a troglodyte architecture all of its own and it appears as the world capital of prehistory.
As for the national museum of Prehistory, it will be interesting for those keen on the history of the period. Families may find there is little to interest children who prefer more playful activities.
Domme
25 minutes from ‘Les Pastourels’ campsite
Classed as <<one of the most beautiful villages of France>>, Domme is a medieval village on a mound with a magnificent view over the Dordogne valley. You can visit on foot or go on the little train, it has a pretty cave.
Our advice: Better in the morning to avoid the heat and the crowds
La Rocque-Gageac
15 minutes from ‘Les Pastourels’campsite
It is a surprising village which was built in and on a cliff alongside the Dordogne. Classified as one of the most beautiful villages of France, walk along the little lanes which run along the foot of the cliff. An unparalled walk.
Our advice: Better in the morning as there are less people – it is one of the most visited sites in France-. If you are unable to canoe we recommend a trip in a gabare (free for children in the morning), from where you can admire the numerous chateaux from the Dordogne, which gives another perspective.
