Eco-friendly campsite in Dordogne
Our Commitment to Sustainable Camping in Dordogne
At Camping Les Pastourels, we believe that protecting nature is essential to preserving the beauty of the Périgord Noir. Surrounded by peaceful countryside in Veyrines-de-Domme, our family campsite is committed to reducing its environmental impact while providing a comfortable and enjoyable holiday experience.
Through simple everyday actions and environmentally friendly practices, we help protect the landscapes, wildlife and natural resources that make the Dordogne such a special destination.
Saving Water
Water is a valuable resource, especially during the summer months in Dordogne. To reduce consumption, we have introduced several measures throughout the campsite:
- Water-saving devices on the taps in all rental accommodation.
- A card-operated system in the campsite shower facilities.
- Regular inspections to detect and repair water leaks quickly.
These actions help us conserve water while maintaining guests’ comfort.
A Natural Wastewater Treatment System
Since 2021, the campsite has operated its own natural wastewater treatment system. Using naturally occurring microorganisms, wastewater is treated before being safely returned to the surrounding environment.
To protect this ecological system, chemical toilet waste from motorhomes and caravans cannot be disposed of on site.
Reducing Energy Consumption
We continue to improve our energy efficiency through practical solutions, including:
- Timers in the campsite sanitary facilities.
- Solar-powered lighting in several outdoor areas.
- A heated swimming pool available from mid-June, depending on the season.
Recycling and Composting
Recycling is an important part of our environmental approach. Guests have access to clearly identified recycling facilities for household waste, recyclable packaging and glass.
We also provide a compost area for uncooked fruit and vegetable waste, eggshells and other organic materials. Fallen leaves collected around the campsite are reused to naturally enrich the compost.
Clear signs help everyone recycle correctly during their stay.
Caring for Our Green Spaces Naturally
Our gardens and natural areas are maintained without chemical weedkillers.
Leaves are composted, hedge trimmings are recycled and tree branches are shredded to produce natural mulch. Our meadows are cut by a neighbouring farmer, who uses the grass as hay for livestock. Grass cuttings are left on the ground to naturally enrich the soil.
These practices help preserve biodiversity while maintaining the natural beauty of the campsite.
Supporting Local Producers
Whenever possible, we work with local businesses and producers from the Dordogne.
By choosing local suppliers, we support the regional economy while reducing transport-related emissions. One example is Brasserie Rocomol, a local craft brewery near Sarlat, whose beers are available for our guests to enjoy.
Enjoy a More Sustainable Holiday in Dordogne
Choosing Camping Les Pastourels means enjoying a relaxing holiday surrounded by nature while supporting environmentally responsible tourism. Together with our guests, we are committed to preserving the landscapes and biodiversity of the Périgord Noir for future generations.
